Oaxaca Art

Our main work in Oaxaca is rural development, but the plight of some the village artists has also captured our attention. The term 'starving artist' is too close to the truth to be comfortable. As we have gotten to know some of these fine people, we have taken to buying their art works to help put food on their tables, to pay electric bills, etc.

The works are all original and of high quality. Our problem is, we can't afford to amass a large, private collection so we are looking to sell items from our 'gallery.' We don't have a payment and delivery schedule put together yet. We are looking to set something up in the U.S. to handle this, but if you are interested in any of these unique pieces, please e-mail us at yvonne@jamesroe.com.

Our 'gallery' is arranged by artist. Right now we feature two deserving young artists who carve and paint wooden figures known as 'alebrijes'(al-uh-BREE-hays) and a weaver of tapetes (tah-PAY-tays).
