JIMSAIP supports three VESA modes (640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768) and one
VGA mode (320x200), all with 190 gray levels.
Select the mode you want to use (and which your video card supports) from
the File-Configure menu. If your video card does not support the VESA
standard (minimum v 1.2), the program will try to setup VGA. As a bare
minimum your system must support VGA &h13 (320x200, 256 colors). This mode
is supported mainly for those users who use a laptop. If you are going to
do serious astronomical image processing on your desktop system, you should
invest in an SVGA board that supports the VESA standard.
The program sets aside XMS memory to support three
video buffers at startup. Each buffer has (Horizontal Resolution)*(Vertical
Resolution) bytes. If you are limited in your XMS memory, you should choose
the video mode that will just cover your image. It will also make the image
appear larger on the screen. You can always resample the image to enlarge
or reduce it to fit your screen using the Resampling
function.
The three VESA modes have square pixels while the
VGA mode is non-square.
